I never used the phrase "soft talking", so I don't know where you got that from, but I also addressed the how long question above, also thoroughly. I doubt my answer will be any more satisfying to you than it was to AQB.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but his alternatives were to continue talking, to use more forceful language, to use a soft hands physical approach or to walk away.

to continue talking - for how long, the rest of the class period? End of school day?

    to use more forceful language
    - that would have been the game changer? You honestly, really think that more forceful language would have gotten her to move?

to use a soft hands physical approach
    - I have no idea what this means

    or to walk away
    - that will really discourage disruptive behavior

So before the cop arrived you think maybe the teacher tried that? You ever teach in an inner-city school?

Jesus Christ, let her sit through class, ignore her than suspend her. Don't ever let her back in class again. The physical assault I'm sure was far less disruptive.

Then the other kids see that and, if they don't want to be in class, they'll just whip out their phones, too.

But I'm sure she wouldn't distract anyone either.

    Then suspend them.

Bullseye. I agree that the officer should not have opened with the level of force he did, but the notion that they didn't do enough talking or use forceful enough language first is silly. It is not the job of teachers, school administrators and resource Officers to endlessly "negotiate" with disobedient high school students . That's supposed to be a one side gives orders, the other obeys or else, arrangement.

I'm sure she was, that definitely deserves being assaulted. Look forward to when all teachers and staff are armed, they can just pop her.

Just like parents, doesn't always work out that way.

Not saying the cop was correct either, but some people posting sound pretty f'n naive to the way some schools and classrooms are today. I know someone who taught with the teacher who was attacked earlier this year in Paterson. Guy was a well-liked, well-respected teacher, also was an Arab-American.

Look forward to when more teachers and staff are attacked like the guy in Paterson.
