Why are Asian-Americans so successful in America?

The idea that attending only one university for all the degrees is a flaw sounds horseshitish to me. I got different experiences at the other schools -- they sucked way more than the original school. If that's a "plus," then something is wrong.

Why I've Stopped Doing Interviews for Yale

 

Would an African American 18 year old from Sidwell Friends In D.C. whose father is an attorney with Patton Boggs and whose mother runs a flower shop in Georgetown provide more diversity to Yale than a white kid from Pennsylvannia whose father is a cop and whose mother is a nursing assistant?

 

Depends.

 

I don't know as I've told this here, but I might have. Anyway, the story -- actually it's my dissertation chair's -- is still pretty funny.

When my chair, a white woman from Georgia, was an assistant professor, she was one of a handful of women who were early in their tenure clock at the school. There was her, a Chinese woman, a German woman, and an African-American woman. One day there was a department meeting and one of the established male professors -- a really good guy -- was trying to point out how nice a development it was that the department was becoming more diverse. He said something to the effect of, "Wow, look how far we've come. Instead of just a bunch of old white guys, we've got an African-American woman, a German woman, a Chinese woman and (looking at my chair) a regular woman."

 

1. They don't come out complaining that others owe them anything. 2. They bust their ass trying to succeed. 3. They know how to assimilate. Which is really a blending of 1 and 2.

 

OK. So why are Asians prone to these traits, but African-Americans apparently have not been? Genetics?

Asians don't have anyone out there leading the bitch brigade to retain them as political pawns (See Sharpton, Al, for example.)
