Is Richland Two a "troubled" school?

I don't see any reason the cop should've piledriven her out of the desk and thrown her across the room, but I also don't yet see anything to suggest she shouldn't have been forcibly removed from the classroom.

As always, it's probably more complicated than the absolutist extremes will allow. Not that we'd know that from the "reporting," though.

Since you have taught what would do if you told a kid to put the phone away or asked to hold it until class is over and the kid refused?

Another issue with the desk flip is that he damn near whacked the student sitting behind her in the face with the chair.

OK. Use of force starts with constructive authority, then physical and mechanical force and last is lethal force. In this case constructive authority seemed to fail so physical force was used. If an officer has a reason to place someone under arrest and the person refuses to be handcuffed the officer can physically handcuff the person. If the officer tells the person to move and the person refuses, the officer can move the person.

That's a pile driver? Don't watch wrestling as much as I used to, but I remember Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff's finishing move the was the pile driver. He would grab his opponent turn him upside down and drop him on his head. I saw nothing close to that in this video.

That's not been your point all along (as I've understood it). Your point has been that there is nothing that could have happened along the way that would have justified this level of force.

I am not an expert here, of course, but I do not buy that. The idea that we can establish (with some reasonable degree of certainty) what level of force was applied by looking at the video(s) is nonsense. As I noted above, even an appropriate level of force could appear to be (or escalate into being) inappropriate.

Some of the esteemed members of the higher education community have weighed in on The Chronicle of Higher Education. I particularly liked this one ...

Wow. Yes. Great idea. Teacher: "We respect you and you are valued by teachers and authority figures. Please put your phone away."
    Student: "Suck my d."
