Probably only if Baron is the 8-year-old (or so) girl who just couldn't hold it anymore and actually did do that once, right in front of the fabrics table in my department at Walmart :).

    (Yep, that really happened).

The idea of clearing the classroom for a single cell-phone violation is right up there with lighting a match to see if there is gasoline in the tank.

Sure seemed like she was acting out. Which seems not that uncommon, especially in kids in foster care.

Anyway, kids are mostly idiots. They know little, have no perspective, rarely conceive on consequences. They're like that when they're young, often when their teenagers, often into their early 20s. The idea that one might be shitty to an authority figure and obstinate, again not very surprising.

Hey DW: Now, THIS is an example of an excited, gleeful poster...

Get lost, JC. As usual, you bring nothing to this discussion.

The man shit his pants to avoid serving in Vietnam and became a teenage girl's legal guardian so he could have sex with her and now he's all about God, country, discipline and respect for authority (except when it comes to cheerleading for an armed overthrow of a President he doesn't like)?
    Give me a break.
What, people grow up, have kids and all of a sudden their way of looking at things changes? Those two things earlier means he forfeited any claim to have any credibility on issues like this.
And why isn't he in jail or dead like he promised he'd be if Obama was reelected?

So no credibility on issues like this = should be dead. Got it.

    It wasn't completely serious.
But I'd really like to know how a guy who took such drastic measures to avoid going to war and found some rather creative ways to get around statutory rape laws is all of a sudden some super patriot who has such strong opinions on respect and a discipline and the like.
What I said is just sort of a variation on how whenever a murderer finds Jesus in prison we ask why he didn't find Jesus before he killed someone.

I guess I have a few questions, after reading both the original linked story and the 35 pages of this thread.
    1. Is there a reason neither the teacher or administrator didn't grab the phone from the student? If the phone was the initial problem, wouldn't the teacher and/or administrator have the authority to confiscate the phone? From the story, the student was asked to leave after not obeying the order to put the phone away. Grab the phone and the SRO doesn't need to be called in. What's the point of asking her to leave the class? If a girl is refusing to put the phone away, what are the odds she's going to voluntarily leave the class when asked? Now, if the phone is taken and then the student goes crazy, perhaps that's when the SRO should be called in.
    2. I'd be curious what the teacher, administrator and SRO all have to say. From what I can tell, the only narrative so far about what happened in the classroom come from the person posting the videos and the sheriff.
    3. Between the teacher, administrator and SRO, how many were aware of this student recently being moved into a foster home? Foster children, especially ones new to the system and/or ones who have recently had significant trauma (which I believe was the case here) can react unpredictably or be prone to violence. My wife and I have been foster parents for several years and many times we've been asked to take in teens. We've refused, in part because we know from both our training and from other foster parent friends how wild and suddenly explosive foster teens can be.
    4. It seems the sheriff made his decision to fire the SRO awfully quickly, which raises IMO a reasonable question as to whether he had all the necessary facts or if he predicted fierce public outcry if he didn't take such a strong action.

Talked to a couple cop buddies. One actually said pretty much exactly what DW said. SRO should have moved the rest of the class to another room and dealt with her. Another buddy said the girl pulled away when he tried to grab her arm and he was justified in what he did.

You do realize talk show hosts and celebrities say way over the top things, especially when it comes to elections. Remember Alec Baldwin said he was moving to Canada if Bush got reelected.
