I could see how a journalist could go decades without using math.

That's a solid test of subject worthiness -- whether a journalist needs to know the subject.

Math is an inefficient and confusing way to teach "problem solving."

You know how good my problem-solving skills are? I was smart enough to buy a calculator so I wouldn't have to waste time doing stupid shit like algebra. Problem solved.

Judging from some of the posts on my FB feed, I'd fail even the simplest math they teach nowadays.

I don't read anymore. It's useless. I just get others to fill me in on shit.

Sadly, that's true for a lot of people in the misinformation age.

I feel like I use it to estimate things. From the simple - I'm driving 70 mph, my destination is 50 miles away, when will I get there?
To the more complex - There's a project that needs to be accomplished around the house. It might take me 10 hours to do by myself. But my wife and brother are helping. We all work at different rates. How long do i think this project will take when we're working together?

    (1) When you get there.

    (2) Faster than if you were working alone, unless your brother sucks. I knew one guy who was more trouble than he was worth for moving, etc., so he was banned from the premises on those days.

The thing that makes math, algebra, statistics, etc. useful is that if you aren't comfortable with them it makes it very easy for people who are, to lie to you and rip you off.
