The statistics classes I took in high school and college were valuable. Algebra? Fuck that noise.

The gold medal factory is cranking into full gear to produce mementos for all writers who never used math or algebra.

Yes, in that context your point is well-taken. On the other hand, I've read about de finetti games being used to determine how "nice" a market will perceive something. It's pretty impressive how subjective opinions can lead to very, very accurate predictions about what subjective opinions will be.

When I was taking my 2-year sabbatical from college to pursue glory as a gas station attendant, I devised a commission formula for driveway personnel based on an algebraic exponential function with automatic maximum and minimum cutoffs, to reward people who dramatically boosted their sales totals. Both sides (crusty old owner and greasy grimy pump jockeys) were thrilled with the outcome. Then when I went back to school, I went into journalism because I didn't like messing with math.

I was going to blast this. But then I remembered I was thinking about posting something similar in another thread.

I wonder why they only needed one administrator to handle the large crowd of protestors.

Sometimes, just sometimes, kids have better judgement than the adults in charge.

I wish there was more video to see so we could know how much this girl actually disrupted the class. I think one of the major reasons this went as far as did was because of bruised egos of authority figures who couldn't make a sullen teen do what they wanted her to do. I suspect they could have ignored her, taught the class, and dealt with her later, as mentioned earlier. I believe her true crime was disrespect.
