There has been a recent push to suggest as much, yes. And it is usually made by people who don't remember either film all that well. Their main argument is "The Ewoks are dumb."

I know. I just thought it would be fun to respond to that long rant with a simple little question. Also, people who think that are nuts. I like Revenge of the Sith a good bit more than you do, but any list of the Star Wars films in order of quality has to have the original trilogy in the top three, well ahead of the prequels.

The Ewoks WERE dumb, just as the Galactic Senate in the prequels was boring.

The declaration that all the originals must inevitably rank ahead of any of the prequels is usually made by middle-aged anal-retentives overromanticizing moderately entertaining movies from the days of their youth.

I'm middle-aged but never laxative-dependent. ROTJ was fun but it was also flawed. It's entirely supportable to rank it a bit behind ROTS.

No. The prequels are really bad.

Solid post, but I don't know why we have to hate on Lucas for enjoying a cup of coffee.

That's a misrepresentation of what those numbers mean. I'd bet very few, if any, of the critics whose scores are aggregated said Sith is better than Jedi. It simply means that 80 percent of reviewers gave Sith a positive rating, while 77 percent of reviewers gave Jedi a positive review.

The 77 percent of Jedi reviewers might all have given the film a 5-star rating, while the Sith reviewers might have all given it a 3-star rating. Those would all be positive reviews, but the critics would have preferred Jedi over Sith.

And let's face it: The curve was much tougher for "Jedi."

Part of the reason Sith is remembered fondly is because AOTC is so incredibly bad. The bar could not have been lower.

It's also the movie that was forced, by necessity, to link up to the story we already knew. Not as much room for Lucas to meander.

Was it? Something like 90% of the moviegoing audience expected ROTS to suck ass.

Yes. That's what I meant. Easy curve.

Great post, but on the above statement in particular, man, they didn't waste any time or expense in peddling their toys and every other thing on the planet they could plaster their logo on.

My son insisted on eating the Mac and cheese with Darth Vader on the box today. At the supermarket, we couldn't go 10 feet without seeing something else Star Wars.

I'm old enough to remember the scope of the toys for the originals, and now I know exactly how my dad felt buying us all that shit.
