That's not what I was getting at. Your post could be interpreted as saying President Obama's journey resulted from something other than what we might call "conservative virtues." I doubt you meant to make that stipulation.

Edit: Then again, maybe I have a problem with reading comprehension. :p

I do think the way out of poverty is via conservative virtues, i.e. hard work. Directed hard work.

I don't, however, think that black Americans are magically, all at once, are going to begin working hard in the right ways. They aren't equipped. My son goes to a pretty good public school system, and if we didn't supplement his learning at home, he would be falling behind already, to others his age around the world. I can't imagine how 6-year-olds in urban and rural poverty, attending shithole schools and coming home to uneducated parents, are supposed to locate their bootstraps, en masse.

I did not realize hard work was a conservative virtue?

Hard work without government intervention necessary to assist certainly is a conservative virtue.

Read posts by WriteThinking, HeyAbbott, Armchair_QB, Old_Tony, and others here: Blacks just don't work hard enough. That is where their analysis typically starts and ends.

Of course if you're mooching lazy slackards, you don't work hard.

What poverty did Barack Obama grow up under as he attended exclusive private schools in Hawaii?

They aren't. They are born in poverty, to uneducated, often imprisoned, parents. And they attend shitty schools.
