It's a quadratic response function in a given technological setting. Given, say, a blackboard, chalk, etc., with increasing class size average cognitive output increases to a point but then begins to decline. Hand out ipads or bring in a more qualified teacher and you may shift the function rightward (you get more cognitive outputs than you otherwise would have), but there's still a point at which outputs begin to decline.

What a lot of people -- across the spectrum -- believe is we should find that sweet spot at which cognitive outputs are at their maximum. But we really shouldn't. There's no way that sweet spot is worth what we'd have to give up -- e.g., safer roads or better libraries or more leisure time -- to achieve it. The classroom size question cannot be considered in a vacuum.

Then I shudder to think what you would view as a nationally intrusive mandate. Executing the first-born sons? (Actually, we already have a version of that, courtesy of the NRA.)

Take all the shots you want. You answered my question honestly. I did the same with yours.

What do you mean, so what?

You want your kid having to travel an hour or more each way just to go to school? Especially younger kids?

    It's not a liberal or a conservative thing. It's a practical thing.

They already can go to a private school if they wish and if their parents can afford it on their own.

Why should my taxpayer dollars go towards favoritism?

I believe you meant to say Roe vs. Wade in the execution of babies.

They execute them at the schools? That's news to me.

Yes, we're all well aware of the many strawmen teachers unions build.

It did not look good, but the girl refused verbal commands several times. So the officer used physical, weaponless force.

Apparently, your education did not include a proper definition of a strawman. Every word of his post was correct.
