    Yes, so what.

To get a better education, a half hour bus ride is nothing.

And, the article I posted dealt strictly with high schools.

Where's the favoritism in what I proposed.

Currently, in Chicago, white kids in good neighborhoods attend good public schools. Black kids in lousy neighborhoods attend poor performing schools.

    That's favoritism.

Why shouldn't a motivated black kid be able to ride a bus or train to attend a good school in a good neighborhood?

An hour each way is a bit far. If the kid and parent want to do it they should have the opportunity but more than 40 minutes each way is kind of a tough commute for HS.

The schools that are underpopulated, and should be merged/closed, are overwhelmingly on the south and west sides.

This is a big city, and the population in these areas has dropped. Closing a school in one of these areas wouldn't force anyone to travel an hour. They would be merged into another nearby school that was also underpopulated.

Not against schools merging and not against a kid having a 45-minute commute to school if the kid and the parent think that is the best path. Just at some point it is counterproductive, like driving over an hour for a better paying job. You have to consider wear and tear on the car, not seeing wife and kids, etc. Agree that something should be done if you have half-filled schools.

But if they're already underpopulated, and more kids decide to commute to a different area as you suggest, then those merged schools will become underpopulated. And, there would be a risk of the other schools becoming overpopulated.

Maybe those motivated kids wouldn't need to ride a bus or train if the government funding was more fair.

The state's school districts with the greatest number of students living in poverty receive substantially fewer state and local dollars than their more affluent counterparts — nearly 20 percent less, according to the study.

In addition, it contends that school districts with the largest enrollments of minority students receive 16 percent less than those districts serving the fewest.

This comes on the heels of another study by WalletHub that contends that Illinois' tax structure places a greater burden on the poor and middle class than any other in the nation. It says Illinois has the second-worst tax system in the nation for low-income workers, who on average pay 12.1 percent of their income in taxes (that includes property, sales and income taxes) and the worst tax system for middle-income wage earners, taking 11.3 percent of their income.

Illinois schools have biggest funding gap in nation

Oh for fucks sake. "It didn't look good." OK.

When a teenaged girl doesn't obey an SRO's command, you are fine with him body slamming he girl and throwing her to the side of the room. I'm glad we're clear.

That's not a body slam. So you're not clear.

So, no to the body slam, yes to the throw. Got it.

He didn't throw her "across the room" either. It's funny how some folks rely so heavily on using misleading descriptions of the incident.

I'm not relying on misleading descriptions. I watched the video.
