I'm guessing some think the teaching profession has not become more rigorous than it was 15-20-30 years ago, so they are just going to keep piling on teachers when ever they can.

I hear the new math is bullshit.

Oh, where online can I see the standardized assessment that rates you in your teaching of your subject matter?

Without it we have no idea if the students actually learned anything in your class or taught the correct material. You know that, right?

I was very good at math . I will be able to teach them correctly -- at least for a while. I assume algebra, geometry, trigonometry, etc. are not polluted by the common core nonsense.

I got a chili pepper for "Hotness" once on RateMyProfessors.com. What else is necessary?

All of our MBA students, in their capstone class, have to participate in a nationwide simulation and take a standardized test. The latter is used by MBA programs, of all stripes, nationwide. Many questions draw on things students are supposed to have learned in my class. Our students do quite well, both on an absolute and a relative basis, on those and other questions. This is particularly gratifying in my case, since my course appears relatively early in their program (meaning that it's been years/months since they've actually dealt with my material).

But there's also this little matter to consider: At least twice a semester (and typically at least once in the summer) I walk into a classroom that has 50 to 60 students in there. Every one of them (or his/her employer) is paying $1,600 to $1,800 for the privilege. Not a one of them has to be there, and not a one of them doesn't have other options. And still they come. Indeed, we turn plenty of them away (not enough, I'm afraid).

Really, though, all of this is irrelevant. Because what I asked was: How are students' test performances actually used in the evaluation of teachers. I addressed the question to OOP, because he appears to be one of the very few around here with both the on-the-ground knowledge and the intellectual honesty to productively answer the question. Your latest spasms, which I am sure are quite embarrassing to him, demonstrate how wise I was to do so.

How do teachers react when Devil tells them at least a third of the them they won't be needed if his vo-tech plan comes to fruition?

I wonder how teachers react when they find out they've got to work with Devil on ... anything.

    50-60 students in one room!

There's no way they are learning anything.

The part where they're sitting there because they want to sit there, and not because they have to, just flew right over your head, didn't it?

At the going rate of $8/hr for babysitters, to have someone watch doctorquant's class, you'd need a minimum of $18,000 to cover the cost of watching the class for 3 hours a week for 15 weeks of a semester.
