Black Mizzou football players go on strike

Apparently there's been an apology of sorts, in fliers distributed around the campus:

What, did they forget how to post on Twitter and Facebook all of a suddent?

 

Full of redneck racists is obviously an exaggeration. But the idea that a large number of the folks at Mizzou who are from rural Missouri (a large percentage of the student body) are racist is something I stand by. As is the general feeling that this rural group mixing with the urban and suburban kids from STL and KC, and that volatile mixture contributing heavily to this.

I have to imagine that there's more to the story of the president than what I know and what has been reported. Because from what I've seen, his ouster was not justified and there is no reasonable expectation that he be singularly responsible for repairing race relations at a flagship state university that educates a student body born and bred in a mostly rural, often racist state. But I acknowledge that there is likely much more to this story than I know that might make this more reasonable.

My guess is if you tried to sum up Mizzou's issue in one or two words "Ferguson" comes closer to explaining it than "Winter's Bone."

 

The media professor issued an apology today. Seems genuine, although who knows.

In fairness, we had to talk about a student going on a hunger strike.
A self imposed hunger strike.
Where he didn't eat.
Because, like, social justice and stuff.

 

Oh, and by the way, I pray I am one day in a position where someone is protesting something I've done or am doing via a hunger strike. Even if I'm in the wrong, I'll gladly call bullshit on that person's willingness to go without food.
I'll gladly wait them out.
Three weeks or so should do it.
