I've had Bortles rostered all season as my backup behind Brees. I don't normally carry three QBs, but I've got Brees, Newton and Bortles in one league and Brees, E. Manning and Bortles in another. I'm currently trying to unload Newton and Manning on the Luck owners because I feel comfortable with Bortles backing up Brees in both leagues (and Manning and Newton's names carry a bit more weight even though they aren't significantly better fantasy-wise).

Brees finishes vs a very weak schedule. Why not get rid of Bortles and roster a position guy who might help?
I've never understood carrying 2 QBs except for bye weeks.

There are several guys in playoff contention who would benefit from picking up Bortles and there's no one on the wire who will crack my starting lineup. Why leave him available to help another team for the sake of picking up another guy who won't play?

I generally agree with your premise. In fact, I like to draft a QB who has an early bye week so that I can then get rid of my backup ASAP. Unfortunately for me, I've been stuck in the 11th and 12th positions of waiver priority for going on six weeks (we use a continual rolling priority, whatever the hell that means), so I have been completely unsuccessful at improving my roster via the wire.

Only carrying one QB is a huge risk. I usually try to keep a hot hand on my bench for bye weeks and short-term injuries, but mostly I like to collect trade bait. I've traded my backup three straight years.

Me too. It's great when someone who is just on the cusp of playoff contention needs a QB and has a surplus at RB or WR. Best way to improve your biggest playmakers unless you get lucky on the wire.

One of the near last place teams want to dump Gronk since he had Lewis. Wants some suitable players in return - RB and WR. I have Graham and Barnidge. I'm also in second place. Do I entertain this or no?
    RBs:
    West
    McCoy
    Starks
    Langford
    Spiller

    WRs:
    Calvin
    Hurns
    ODB
    James Jones

I'm assuming you start QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, FLEX (WR/RB/TE), PK, DEF? If you can't start both Barnidge and Gronk, then it doesn't make much sense to give up a valuable RB for a bench player.

Pretty much, except the flex is RB/WR. My own fault as I'm the commish. Thought I could alter starting positions after the draft. As for Barnidge, I feel he's only worth a start if McCown is playing. I could try and trade Graham for another RB, but everyone pretty much has a decent TE already. And yes, I don't want to give up someone who will benefit me more than a player like Gronk who will give me comparable numbers to Barnidge or Graham if he keeps it up.

He's also a sleeper who's probably off a lot of radars and has a soft schedule down the stretch. For someone who had Luck, pre-injury, or Peyton Manning or Stafford, some marquee name like that who has severely underperformed, Bortles could be a guy who could salvage a season.
He's available in my league and I have Manning. I'm also 1-8 and wondering if I can go 1-15 or whatever the hell the worst possible record will be, so I'll probably give him a pass.

I just flipped Newton for Allen Robinson. Newton is the fifth-ranked player in Yahoo and Robinson is the sixth-ranked WR (24th overall). I can now slot Robinson into my flex spot and bench Tavon Austin (who has been solid, but not great).

I've also got Julio Jones and Odell Beckham, so I have three of the top six WRs in the league and a top 5 QB with Brees as my starter. My RBs are still weak with Doug Martin, Shane Vereen and TJ Yeldon.

Wound up taking a flier on Welker joining St. Louis.

I grabbed Funchess to fill an empty roster spot in a PPR league. Had the luxury of taking a flier as I have Julio, Hopkins, Decker and Brown at WR.
