OK, so in one league I picked up Flacco. Took him over Cousins because of the long-term factor -- I trust he'll be a lot more consistent if I need to start him several weeks.

In the other, one player last week had a bunch of guys out with injuries and byes, so he dropped his backup QB to pick up a kicker. The QB is Philip Rivers (he also has Brady). Rivers is off this week, but I snapped him up anyway -- I figure he'll find a way to be productive even with all his receivers hurt -- then I picked up Cousins for this week.

Just FYI, Bortles was not available in either league.

He shouldn't have been. I picked Bortles up a month ago and he's replaced Ryan in my weekly lineup.

I mentioned that because when I first brought up my un-Luck-y QB situation, Batman suggested I check to see if Bortles was out there.

Yeah, Bortles is still getting ignored because of the Jags' rep, but he's getting better, he has a good WR corps, and best of all the team is almost always playing from behind. Great combination.

The guy to whom I traded Newton has Rivers as his primary starter and Russell Wilson as his backup. He's kind of desperate for a win this week as he sits in seventh place with four weeks to play, so I guess he didn't want to leave his season up to Wilson, or trust Rivers to keep producing with his receivers injured. That said, Robinson was his second-best non-QB (he also has Freeman).

That makes sense. Just surprised Bortles would help someone actually in contention.

Why? You could have strong RBs and WRs and have a hole at QB.

Most teams that make the playoffs will have an elite guy at QB - Brady, Rodgers, Rivers, Newton, Brees. Plus with Dalton and Carr's emergence, it's tough to me eo envision a scenario where you're rolling with Bortles and still making the playoffs. I guess a Luck owner?
I guess going with him isn't a terrible move, considering his 14, 15 and 16 schedule - home vs. Indy and ATL, at New Orleans. His next four weeks are pretty cake as well.

This Luck owner would love to have Bortles right now. Certainly over Flacco.

Bortles should ring up some pretty strong numbers given the opponents he'll be facing.

Where do you think Bortles ranks this year?

Are you asking me? I have no idea.

I do know I'd rather have him coming down the stretch than Joe Flacco. And Rivers, with his top two receivers out and Denver still on the schedule (twice, really, but the second time is Week 17), is making me a little nervous.

Bortles has topped 20 points in three of his past four games and now faces Baltimore, Tennessee, San Diego, Tennessee again, Indy, Atlanta, New Orleans and Houston (Week 17). I suspect I could do OK with that.
