Can someone explain the obsession w/Ronda Rousey

I could spring for pay-per-view, but I think I'll wait for the Vine video.

 

Rousey will still win, but I bet it takes longer than her last three fights combined. Yeah, that is like 1:15, but still. If Holm can keep Rousey at range, maybe even land a shot early to get her wobbly, it could get interesting. More likely, Rousey rushes her, eventually gets close enough for a throw and puts Holm on her back. Once that is done, it is academic.

As a pretty dedicated MMA fan, I'm so entirely done with everyone's obsession with Rousey. She is so overblown it is ridiculous. A large part of me is rooting for her to lose just so she will come back down to earth a bit.

 

You can hold hope for Cyborg to take her down.
If that doesn't happen, you better get used to it.

 

Oh I know. I more than likely won't even watch this weekend because I already know the result (and because it is college football season and this man has priorities). I'd definitely watch Cyborg/Rousey, but I am still pessimistic it will ever happen.

I do think her star will start to fade soon just because of the natural course of celebrity. She's IT for the moment, but no one holds that mantle for too long. MMA is still such a niche sport that her dominance there will be less and less interesting to people. Her story has been told numerous times and she is idolized as a feminist icon (even though she is dating an accused, married woman beater and trades regularly on her looks). She is at her peak right now, but the only direction from there is down.

 

A huge part of me wants her to snap your arm off at the elbow. Her armbar is devastating and she is pretty damn tough, but call me when she finds a real challenge.

 

If I came within a five-foot radius of her, my arm would be hers for the taking, which is true for about 99 percent of humans.

Don't get me wrong, she's amazing. An athlete in the truest sense unequaled by anyone in her sport. But the hero worship has gone a little bit too far, especially considering a lot of the hypocrisy that follows her around.

 

Hero worship for someone whose job is to beat the shit out of people.

God bless America.

 

I hope she loses tonight, just so people will shut the fuck up about her.

 

It's totally different for Rousey because of her weight. She's able to manipulate her opponents' whole body with moves.

 

I wonder if her bedposts have turnbuckles.

 

I still can't forgive her about the Sandy Hook hoax tweet.
