It's just going to get worse. Facebook has created a tool that will change your profile pic into the French flaf, and are encouraging people to use it.

Aren't you the guy who keeps posting and posting he's above insincere, maudlin, self-congratulatory BS?

From what I have gathered so far on social media, love is how you combat ISIS and other existential threats.

Secretary Kerry speaking now, refers to defeating "violent extremism". Still can't refer to it as Islamic terrorism.

I love too how the administration always refers to ISIS domestically as ISIL, though they are in a small minority in doing so. But, in Europe, Kerry uses the Arabic pronunciation of the acronym, Daesh, which is more commonly used there.

    Well, that and peer pressure.

If you know any potential terrorists, make sure they know you think terrorism is "uncool". That will surely sway them.

How much better is it to in each instance claim intellectual superiority over such behavior on a different social media platform?

I understand people wanting to illustrate their support and not wanting to be cynical, as Alma put it, or "make it political," but Dick is right in that this stuff allows people to justify moving on and avoid discussions we need to have. People can say, "Oh, we can wait a day or two." With today's attention span, this will all be forgotten as soon as possible. Until the next attack. Rinse, repeat.

Seriously, I'm amazed how little play that story got (did it even get a thread here?). I wonder how many of those pouring out facebook empathy today are unaware that this is actually the second major ISIS international attack in the last couple weeks ...and the first one actually killed a lot more people than this one.

This is true. If you've changed your Facebook profile pic, you've done your part. A couple of days go by, and we're back to normal.

    It's all about caring.
