Glad you added the parentheses, because there has been no indication whatsoever that Trump wants no part of the presidency. I don't think he has an exit strategy because he believes he will win.

I think he wants to win, too.

I don't think the Muslim controversy that the NYT surely thinks is going to finally sink his campaign is a troll. He didn't even say it. He said we'll need to do things we've never done for security, and the reporter asked if that meant ID'ing Muslims. He gave a non-responsive answer about generally having to think about doing "things."

I definitely don't think it will sink him, either. And I think the more places like NYT harp on any "gaffe" that will sink him, the less likely it becomes to sink him.
But also, most of the things people claim will sink him likely poll well among the people already supporting him, so it's all fairly stupid anyway.

The way the early primaries line up, I see pretty clear sailing for him through Super Tuesday. Can Cruz win Texas?

Sink is a relative term. The people who have fallen for this racist demagogue show every sign of sticking, but he's never gotten the support of so much as one-third of Republicans. Not Americans, Republicans.

Now that might be enough to get nominated if this remains a 392-candidate shitshow, but it doesn't translate to winning the White House yet. If it ever does, I'll have to swim the Rio Grande south in a hurry before the wall goes up.

I dunno, Cran. Iowa's Republicans are dominated by Christianists, and there's nobody running, not even Bernie, who's more devoutly secular than Trump.

Washington (CNN) -- Donald Trump on Thursday called for the creation of a national database to register all Muslims living in the U.S. to protect the country against terrorism.

"I would certainly implement that. Absolutely," Trump
told NBC News during a campaign stop in Newton, Iowa. He continued: "There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases. We should have a lot of systems."

Oh, I get that. But I don't think a loss to Carson in Iowa deters him.

There's also the primary setup that fivethirtyeight feels can hurt trump (mentioned earlier in the thread):
The GOP’s Primary Rules Might Doom Carson, Cruz And Trump

    (rough TL;DR version:
    • Blue-state Republicans hold more sway over the nomination process than Deep Red-state Republicans.

    • This is significant because even if a state sends no Representatives or Senators to Congress and no electoral votes in the general election, they still get to influence the primary.

    • Most national polls right now just target Red-states, leaving out the views of more casual voters.

Here in Massachusetts, blue as it gets, Trump is clearly the Republican primary leader -- now, anyway.
