Exactly. The founding fathers never intended for the Constitution to be to be treated as eternal holy writ like so many today seem to think. That's why they put in that whole amendment process so we could change it as need be to adapt with the times. But nowadays if anyone even suggests we avail ourselves of that process people act like it's a suggestion of mortal sin.

I suspect those guys would be shitting their pants in disgust if they knew how their Second Amendment was now being used by to justify loonies massacring innocents with ARs (weaponry not even conceivable back then). Jefferson's response to "but it's in the Constitution" would be "then change it, you dumbasses...."

It also wasn't meant to be permanent even with amendments. The assumption was that you would have regular constitutional conventions as your nation grew and changed. The amendment mechanism is actually a great example of a part that was designed for the time period and does not scale well to modern times.
