Very interesting post, YF. The only thing I'll take issue with is hating America.

Oh, and I don't hate Muslims, either. That seems to be the "right" way to think these days, but if a family of refugees fleeing the oppression of the IS wants to move in next door, it wouldn't bother me. Maybe it would do our Catholic family and their Muslim family a world of good, actually.

If that means I don't believe in "American values," so be it.

Reminds me of that classic Michael Jordan quote: "Republicans buy shoes, too."

re: NRA opposing gun restrictions for those on watch list

It ... kinda? ... makes sense to me.

For the sake of argument, let's say that you believe that gun ownership is a fundamental right. Are we really in the business of taking away fundamental rights just because the government suspects you might commit a crime?

So the GOP doesn't want Syrian refugees in the USA because they might be terrorists. But they don't want to ban folks on the actual watch list because they might not be terrorists.

Sure. You don't apply the same processes to your citizens as you do to people who aren't in the country yet.

And the NRA told them to vote it down.

And you find his "More guns, less crime" thing to be credible?

If the government can't trust them on a plane, how can they trust them with a gun?

What kind of bubble are you living in? Islamic terrorism has been a pretty big story worldwide the last 15 years. Its arrival on our shores doesn't make it less of a story.
