YankeeFan hands down sj.com poster of the year. The guy is always working six angles.

    Dick Whitman runner-up.

sjChicago.com is killing it. The rest of the sj.com is going to have to step up its game.

YF, don't trip and fall in your rush to scrutinize Paul Ryan's remarks:

Paul Ryan joins chorus opposing Trump’s Muslim ban

Freedom of religion is a fundamental constitutional principle. It’s a founding principle of this country,” Ryan told reporters following a closed-door morning meeting at the Republican National Committee. “This is not conservatism. What was proposed yesterday is not what this party stands for. And more importantly, it’s not what this country stands for.”

Ryan (R-Wis.) said it is “incumbent” on Republican leaders to “stand up and defend what conservatism is and what the Republican party stands for.”

“I’m not concerned about lasting damage to the party; I’m concerned about standing up for our country’s principles,” he said.

You know what I think would be the best argument against Trump's plan?

    - Not that it would be "hard" to implement

    - Not that it "might" be unconstitutional

    - Not that it would violate "International Law"

    - Not that is would "surely" violate some treaty

    - Not that it would make us a "pariah nation"

    - Not that it would be mean

    - and not that it would be unfair, because we have Muslims serving in the US Military

We've seen all of these arguments made in major media in less than 24 hours.

The best argument agains the plan would be that it's completely unnecessary, and would do nothing to make us safer.

Has anyone made that argument anywhere in the media this morning?

I'm not sure if folks are uncomfortable making the case, can't make it, or if it just never occurred to them to try and make it.

It's sort of worth discussing though, isn't it? If we're going to take the "plan" seriously, and are worried about how the plan would be implemented, shouldn't we ask if it would do any good?

    YF:

Can you add to your list:

-Not that it's the antithesis of what America was founded on

I figured "mean" covered that. The rest of it is just emotion.

    No it doesn't cover it.

"Mean" has little to do with our guiding principles as a nation.

Prediction: Trump will stage a fake assassination attempt on himself, and after his "miraculous" survival, blame it on Mooslims, and call for mass imprisonments and executions.

Are Cruz and Rubio sitting this one out, or have they commented? That's the heart of the matter for the GOP -- they can't let the guy ruin any more viable candidates.

    I do get it.

One candidate can't touch him right now.

All the candidates added up can.

I hope he wins the nomination and selects Palin as his running mate. I really do. Just for the sheer farce of it.
