Chuckling at the thought of a Cruz-Clinton contest. You'd have to look high and low to find two people on opposite sides of the ideological divide who combine: 1) the core conviction that they're the smartest people on the planet; with 2) a complete inability to come across as anything other than a turd.

I think Cruz has a far better idea of what it takes to actually get elected than Trump. although Trump has managed this weird insurgent campaign brilliantly, for what it is. Trump is simply not electable, and god help us all if I'm wrong.

Cruz is an oily, smug. smartest guy in the room who *wants* you to know that he thinks so. Nobody likes him among the Republican establishment. All he's done since he hit the Senate was throw bombs and be a general wedge up the ass. If he wins the primary race, the party will reluctantly back him, because they have no real choice, but they really don't want anything to do with him.

The wild card is what will happen down ballot if Trump or Cruz actually win the primary race, because this could be a generationally bad beat for the Republicans.

We would be watching the spectacle of an entire country holding it's collective nose and pulling a lever, with as little confidence or conviction as we're likely to see in our lifetimes.

Players or pollsters, on the bench or on the stage, Monmouth University love them some obnoxious white boys.

Trump hits a new high in national poll

According to the results of the latest Monmouth University poll surveying voters identifying as Republican or independents leaning toward the GOP, Trump earned 41 percent, nearly tripling the support of his closest rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who took 14 percent.

Understood. The thing is that the establishment can do a lot to lift him or stick a knife in him, and he's made a practice of pissing on them ever since he got elected to the Senate.

Ever hear the one about "the same people you abuse on the way up, you might meet up, on the way back down."?

Everyone "writing off" Trump saying he has no chance don't understand that candidates have had six months to torpedo his candidacy, that he has been a national figure longer than anyone currently running for President and it isn't like his controversial comments have hurt him so far. What is going to happen in the next two months that is going to change the equation? People are going to go into the voting booth and have a moment of clarity?

People said the same thing about Jesse The Body Ventura and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

If you've been a billionaire for 30 years, or have served in Congress, you might have to give up any claims of being anti-establishment.
