Late last week, I heard an NPR story about a carbon offset concession booth (for lack of a better term) at the conference. They figured up how many dead dinosaurs it took you to fly to Paris, you donated an equivalent amount to some green energy project in the third world, and they gave you a special white lanyard to demonstrate how good you were. The whole thing sounded like pedaling indulgences out of the Vatican.

And it didn't comply with the ACA because it offered inferior plans to what the ACA was making insurance companies offer. Now, the customers may have been happier having those inferior plans, and the reduced costs, but it's not like they ended up with a plan that gave them lesser coverage than before. They may have had to pay more. But they weren't losing any coverage.

71 in Buffalo today, and it has not snowed yet. After the past couple years of being hammered by record snow the locals appreciate the break, but this ain't normal.

 

You'll wait a long time for a "normal" winter, at least where I live. Sometimes it snows 10 feet in December and 6 inches in January. Sometimes its 50 degrees in February and -20 in March. "Normal" is a construct of averages, not of any particular streak of winters people have ever lived through.

 

Last year was the hottest on record. This year will replace it.
