Story arc aside, the prequels lacked the fun of the first three. No wisecracking Solo or Leia. Just a brooding Anakin, deadly serious Jedis and a damsel-in-distress Natalie Portman. Blah.

 

Han Solo was such a great character - and a necessary one - in the original trilogy because he was standing in for the audience, basically telling us, "Yeah, this shit about Bothans and Clone Wars sounds like nonsense to me, too!"

By the prequels, Lucas clearly took the universe he had created dead seriously.

I agree here, but what I also don't want to see (I don't think this a spoiler, but anyone concerned stop reading this) is a damned remake of Episode IV.

 

I know. It's a really huge challenge to pull this off.
