I would assume it's fairly common to skip votes that are foregone conclusions.

Yeah, it is, on both sides of the aisle.

Yeah, except for the fact he has an apparent strong opinion on it and has been called out repeatedly for not showing up. Including in the first(?) debate. I also know it's fairly common for candidates to miss votes while campaigning, but Rubio seems to have taken it to a whole new level.

Same thing he did the other night when he got onto Cruz for supporting the immigration bill that Cruz has been beating on Rubio about. He hit out at Cruz for adding an amendment and making a speech in support of the bill - but Rubio forgot that he himself had missed the vote on it. You can bet that if he goes to the well on that again Cruz will hit him right between the eyes with it.

I don't imagine many people here plan to vote for Rubio, but yes, it concerns me that he has the worst voting record in the Senate in his first term on the job.
    Written before his latest no-show:

Sadly, Marco Rubio's attendance record is getting worse

Failing to attend committee meetings and intelligence briefings is just as concerning as missing floor votes. This is particularly true on matters of foreign policy, an area in which Rubio holds himself out as an expert. It is insufficient for him to expect his staff to relay the nuance of information presented.
Besides, an essential part of doing your job is to first show up for work.
Yet, The Times reported that because of fundraising demands, Rubio has missed a slew of Foreign Relations hearings and classified briefings. "In January, he missed an intelligence briefing on ISIS and two other classified briefings to attend fundraisers in California. In April he missed an Intelligence Committee briefing to go to Texas to raise money. And in September, he missed a Foreign Relations hearing on the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East."
    ...
Plus, Rubio's voting record continues to get worse with every passing quarter. Between July and September, he missed 28 of 52 votes, or 54 percent. So far this quarter, he has missed 30 of 37 votes, or 81 percent. No matter how you look at it, his on-the-job performance is terrible.

    Lol.

Look at McCain, Kerry, and Obama's records when they were running for president.

This is true. Doesn't make it right. I know these folks are going to miss votes while fundraising/campaigning. And I also understand that they can miss votes when they feel like an issue is already decided, but at least make an effort.

Part of it is that the Senate rarely even meets on a Friday.

McConnell rushed the bill through, with no debate. That's not the way the Senate is supposed to work.

That's fair. But this is not an isolated incident. Jeb called him out on it months ago. I don't know other candidates' records from this year or previous years as far as meetings/briefings/etc, but he is not bothering with any of it. And I think that's a problem. As it is with any candidate consistently not doing the job. I know Paul doesn't have the obligations of Rubio, but he's missed 6 percent of the votes. That sounds more in line with what it should be. Not 34 percent and climbing on a weekly basis.

An inexperienced Senator with a spotty voting record. Sounds like presidential material to me.

The best part of the Trump campaign -- the lack of campaign professionals -- is also the worst thing about the Trump campaign:
