Does Seattle's loss change that matchup?

It could. Depends on what they, the Vikings AND the Packers now do next week. The third, fifth and sixth spots are still up for grabs now.

Perhaps I'm full of shit and too much a contrarian on overtime strategy.

In the "old days", of course you take the ball.

I just don't believe that you always take the ball with the current overtime rules.

I would consider exceptions, such as a cold weather game or a QB who is a threat for a killer pick at the wrong time. In this case, the Jets met both of the exceptions. It didn't work out for New England but I tend to trust the hoodie, based on his trophy case.

Points and yards are cheaper than ever, yes, but, if your opponent still needs a touchdown on the opening drive, that's still a relatively low percentage.

You put the ball in the hands of the best QB in football and one who is on the Mt Rushmore of QBs. Don't over think it. Your defense is not as good as your offense

Some fun stats from the Rams-Seahawks game:
    1) This was the Rams' first win in Seattle since 2004 (they also won a playoff game there in Jan. 2005), which is surprising considering the way they've seemed to give the Seahawks fits over the years.
    2) It's the first time in 62 games with Russell Wilson as the starter (since the start of the 2012 season) that the Seahawks have not led at any point in a game.

The offense that took the field today was not as good as the defense.

Despite that you don't kick when the team who gets the ball first can win without you touching it, regardless of percentages. If you win the flip, you take the ball. No matter the personnel or the type of day a unit is having. End of story. You don't risk it, even if it is a small chance.

Two of the Patriots losses have been in OT and both times they gave up a TD on the first possession of the period. You don't choose to play defense first (I know against the Broncos they lost the toss).

    Another interesting NFL factoid.
Entering Sunday, there were four teams that had never had a first-round bye since the playoffs expanded in 1990. Arizona clinched one today, and Cincinnati can get one by winning Monday.
The last two on the list are the Texans (who didn't exist until 2002) and the Browns.

Huh? I was talking about Jets- Patriots. One coach is about to lead his team to the playoffs in his first season and the other is a Hall of Famer.

So they just had to change the old overtime rule to give the kicking team a chance if the receiving team kicks a field goal. And now, less than two full years in, Bob Costas can't restrain himself from sermonizing that the rule should be changed again, and that the Patriots should have gotten a possession even though the Jets scored a touchdown.

Really? How about, oh, taking the ball when you win the coin toss?

I think the new NFL overtime rules (opening drive FG can't win it) work well.
