Goes against coaches' code of honor. You never publicly covet an active coach's job.

Holmgren has put his name up for that job every time it has opened since about 2000.

He also spent five years in two jobs mailing it in toward the end of his career. He's about as likely to be able to handle an NFL head coaching job as John Madden is.

The really, really super late face mask penalty they called on the Broncos -- it was a face mask, but it's the second time this season that I've seen refs pretty much throw a flag after they saw it on the jumbo tron. Is this something that is allowed now? They can't get it right in real time, so they get to look at the in-stadium replay?

I'll take the correct call, thanks.

Fucking Bungles. Cue some of the Steelers' faithful claiming they threw the game. (Yes, they've been making that claim against the Patriots since the end of that game. Damn embarrassing).

You don't think it's a little unfair one way or the other that when teams are lining up for the next play they throw a flag? So now we're reviewing on the scoreboard? It was the right call but where do you draw the line? Just the obvious ones? Or any time you think you saw something?

They should just show the replay and throw/not throw the flag based on the crowd reaction.

What is your evidence that they changed the call after viewing the scoreboard?

That had been my initial inclination, get it right. But the game has suffered, it has no pace, no rhythm and is constantly stopped. It's getting to be like a televised criminal case. Half the action is in the bench conference and the discussion is centered on a player's intent and divining the meaning of the language of the rule. Instead of looking at instant reply, we are now subjected to a digital frame by frame analysis from multiple angles. After 75 years, can anyone say with clarity what is a catch?

remove all officials but an umpire and referee. Have the game officiated, off-site by use of multiple camera Angeles and officials watching specific areas. You can put a chip in the ball and have sensors on the field to determine exact ball placement, 1st downs, scores and lines of scrimmage. Take the damn headphones out of the QB's and Defensive players helmets. Let the QBs either call their own game, or go back to rotating players in and out. Let the men play the damn game.

Going to an NFL game is like watching vintage porn, moments of glorious action linked together by pretty clothed people standing around for long periods of time waiting for something to happen

My guess is they likely started their huddle after someone saw it. I don't have any proof, but it was not handled right. There was no flag on the ground, there was no clock stoppage and the ball was already set for the next play. All around fishy (I've seem some suggest they had outside communication, but I'll stick to the scoreboard theory!), and I'm sorry it opens cans of worms. Their only saving grace is that it was the obvious correct call, but it was so obvious why didn't they call it in the first place? I just think it sets a bad precedent and considering the next play was already set I'm pretty sure that was against the rules to throw a flag anyway.
