And I realize they cheated with Darth Maul in the cartoon, but not in the movies.

Also, if we ulimately find out he isn't dead, they've just cheapened the emotional climax of the first movie. It would be like saying "Nah, Darth was just lying about being Luke's father" in Return of the Jedi. Makes that whole moment completely pointless.

But it wasn't really Locke. I mean, it was dumb. But it wasn't him.

But that is part of the current canon. Darth Maul was cut in half and fell down into a pit and that bullshit story about him surviving is part of the current continuity. Most of the expanded universe was tossed out, but Star Wars: The Clone Wars was kept.

I know, but people who only know the movies are oblivious to that. To them, he died. Clearly the standards are higher for the films.

I'm fairly certain that a large percentage of the folks who would put enough thought into this to consider ways Han survived would also know about what they did with Darth Maul in the cartoon.

Abrams also made it clear on LOST that a character didn't have to be technically "alive" to impact the storyline in a major way.

My point is they wouldn't do that in a movie. They can say the cartoons and comics are canon all they want.

I get your point. I'm saying, the people who would care enough to bitch about it will bitch regardless of the medium.

This is where I'm at with the EU. I'm sure the comics, cartoons and books are considered canon now, but I'm not going to read them. If they start making the movies in a way that requires additional reading to get the full experience, they are going to lose me and lots of other fans. The movies should stand alone. If they want to introduce something into the movies that happened elsewhere, I'm all for it. But don't make me go out and find it.

So is there going to be a Mirconauts movie?
