You can make an argument for a lot of guys, and the Steroid Era guys are clogging things up as well, but as I said, you start the ballot with Griffey (or Bonds/Clemens, depending on your POV) and go from there. Just my perception and how I would do it.

The hand-wringing over the lack of a unanimous election is just as fucking stupid as leaving Griffey off the ballot. Who fucking cares?

Well, you either care about that, or you don't care about the Hall voting. If they're dicking around with nonexistent "rules" ...

Can you provide one legitimate reason why Raines isn't a hall of famer?

So as I understand it, there are some voters who will not vote for someone in his first year of eligibility as a matter of principle?

    What principle is that?

Imagine if enough writers figured it was up to them to uphold the sanctity of the "unanimous" selection and Griffey didn't get enough votes to get in. I have to think there is some organized effort on something like this right?

I just don't think he reaches that level. Excellent player, and I liked him a lot. I wouldn't vote for him over the guys presented, but I certainly wouldn't be offended if he got in. My questionable comment was in comparison to the other guys on Dick's list. I think there are easily 7 or 8 guys more worthy. And I don't think I'd vote for 10 off that list.

It's a dumbass principle where they believe they're creating a "sub-class" of first-time inductees as opposed to regular inductees.

    But there are such voters?

Just the idea that other worthy players weren't unanimous, so Griffey/whoever shouldn't be either.

Most definitely, though it would appear a fair amount are no longer voters.

There were. The question is if the purge got rid of them all or not.
