    The one thing that bugs me about these lists is that they are comparing different time frames. Yes, lottery odds are ridiculous, but these lists make them seem more outrageous than they are.

    The "lightning strike" and "asteriod strike" et al are measured over a lifetime, whereas the lottery is measured by THIS WEEK. Rest assured, if you play Powerball every week of your life, your odds are somewhat better than 1:180,000,000 of winning once.

    It's been a long time since I got a C- in AP Statistics, but I'm pretty sure your odds of winning powerball with a single ticket remain the same with each draw.
