So is this what happened in Cleveland?

A proud Jewish owner hires a widely praised Israeli coach with zero American/NBA experience. The affirmative action impulse is understandable, but should have been overruled by good judgement or good advice. The coach took the job I think for the money rather than the odd chance he thought he could succeed.

The team's black stars and assistant coaches cover for his lack of NBA skills for a year and a half and win impressively in spite of him. They do this because they do not want to be known as coach killers or back stabbers. They could not totally conceal their disdain for him however.

The GM, who on one hand should have done this earlier, shows courage finally by firing the guy at the worst possible time knowing full well he will be incurring the wrath of the white coaching establishment and feeding the fuel for the anti-LeBron writer at Yahoo.

Kings might not be too far away ...

This sequence says a lot about Cauley-Stein's future there.

For the people with critical thinking skills. How much better would LeBron have been with a coach like Popovich?

The last American born player that Popovich coached that didn't go to college was Jackie Butler, who played 11 games for the 06-07 Spurs.
Belichick, almost every year, has the highest percentage of college graduates on his team. He's also famous for having the least amount of 1st round draft choices. I think they are generally acknowledged as being the best coaches of their sport, coach as in teach. I don't see James accepting of being taught.

I don't think James would do well with Popovich because there's no evidence that James knows how to be coached. And no reason to believe that he thinks anyone has something to teach him About basketball. He's the King, he's the Chosen 1. How can the Messiah be told what to do?

Well this is a fairly meaningless stat considering that there's been a one and done rule since 07 essentially forcing American players to go to college. American-born players with no college aren't so easy to find nowadays.

And, of course, Popovich has also long been known for his fondness for foreign players who never spent a day in our college basketball world, so I rather doubt college is any sort of factor in the Spurs personnel moves.

    Good point

Those foreign players seem to accept coaching, unlike LeBron

Yeah, foreign players can be a bit snooty sometimes, but not uppity like those Americans who skip college.
