Inappropriate tipping (?)

I feel like any drink I get made I throw a buck in for. Coffee, milkshake, whatever.
Do I need to tip my housecleaners? We pay X for the service but have no clue.

 

I've been stiffing myself on haircuts for years. Dammit.

 

Pretty solid 20 percent on everything, unless the service is awful. And a couple of bucks in the tip jar for takeout, for karma. Kinda like tipping the person who cashes you out at casino if you made a profit. Karma.

Question: Most bars near me do the standard three-drink buyback for regulars (for those who don't know, you buy three drinks, you get the fourth drink free).

My standard has always been to tip at least the amount of the fourth drink, with an extra couple of bucks. Good? Too little?

You're good. Don't tip anyone who doesn't do any work for you. Takeout? No.

 

I almost never tip on takeout, but I think Chinese or Mexican takeout would get it over pizza. Pizza is just handing me a box or two, the others are actually packing a bag with different things.

Unsure about rounding up. Maybe that was when people used cash and it saved her from making change, but how often do we pay with cash? Rounding up when using a card seems pointless.

Multiple orders at a drive thru is awful, so is asking what everybody wants one at a time while sitting there.

I always give a minimum of $2.50 tip if I am eating by myself. If my food is only $7, I'm not tipping $1.40. That's just not enough.

People sometimes will leave a penny, like $5.01, if they are really pleased with service.

 

waiters - 20 pct (minimum $3)
Cab drivers 20 pct. (rounded up to even dollar amount)
Hotel housekeepers - $5 daily
Valet parking - $5
Curbside luggage - $5/bag
Bartenders - $1/drink ($2 for cocktails)
Haircut - $5
Golf cart attendant - $5 for club wipe down.

 

We didn't have much disposable income until about 5 or 6 years ago. Yet I made a ton of cash in college delivering pizzas so I pretty much overtip everywhere, largely as I know other people are cheap.

Waitstaff - 20% minimum, usually 25%
Pizza/food delivery - $4.00 flat fee, regardless of order size unless it's more than three pizzas. However I almost always pick up pizzas or food. I do not tip on carryout
Valet parking - I have disposable income but not that much. Always self-park.
Haircut - $6 every time.
Massage - $20.
Hotels - $3 a night, leave it every evening.

I find that it's also good practice to show our children how to properly tip. I don't want them to be the kid in the dorm who is too cheap to tip.

 

I'm the same way as I am a notorious coupon user, often to an extreme level. However, if I get a 2-for-1 sit-down dinner, I'll usually tip the price of the free dinner.

 

OK, so how do you guys deal with bartenders you know who hook you up? If I go in and my buddy is working, I'll have 2-3 beers on the house. What do I tip? If I tip more than $15, I might as well have paid for them myself. I guess it becomes a little easier if you go in and get shit-hammered. You can probably leave $20-30 and it benefits both of you.

Bartenders, I tip a $5 for every 20 spent.
In your case, if you have 2-3 on the house, you could throw him a 5, and he'd be good......
