I think some folks were expecting a meltdown. Maybe he was going to curse out Iowa.

He did fine. He's getting better at this.

 

Except this actually is a win for Rubio, especially in light of where yesterday's polling had him. Expect major Rubio momentum in the coming weeks.

There's no believable way for Trump to "spin this as a win." He can try it, but nobody with a brain's buying it.

 

Trump's speech was almost overly humble. Particularly for him.

 

Dems are dead even.

They don't report raw voter totals. Given Bernie's big wins in college towns, I think it's pretty clear he's going to get more actual votes, if not "delegate equivalents", or whatever the hell they're called.

 

Conventional wisdom said Trumps voters wouldn't show. He would win only if lots of first time caucus voters came out.

Well, they got record numbers, but Cruz won.

Cruz did it. His ground game was everything his folks said it would be. But, Trumps voters did show up.

In a caucus state, that's heavily evangelical, he did fine. He set expectations high, but he did fine.

 

I remember in 08, Hillary would "win" a primary and a couple of days later it would be revealed that Obama actually walked away with more delegates. The caucus is pretty much like that straw poll they used to do, a good test of a campaign's organizing ability, not much else.

 

On the Republican side it will be Cruz 6, Trump and Rubio 5, and Carson 1. (Who the hell are the people still voting for Carson?)

Hillary and Bernie will split the delegates.

The delegates don't really matter ... the "aura" and the narrative are what matters.

 

It's pretty incredible, especially given how much money is spent, how few people even vote in this thing, even with "record turnout".

 

Exactly. You want the headline, the graphic "wins" next to your name. It really seems like there is a concerted effort to label Trump the "big loser", when second in the Iowa GOP is the much better position than first, historically.
