I know it's a crowded field on the GOP side, but anyone know the last candidate to finish in the top 2 in Iowa and NH and not win a nomination for either party? It hasn't happened under the current system. And no candidate has won a nomination without at least a top 2 finish in either state.

It feels like we've reached the point where people get emotionally invested in their candidates and it ceases to be fun, here and elsewhere.

Good thing there is one poster dedicated to emotionless, objective analysis to keep everyone honest. Thanks Rick Stain.

Hillary supporters were in full lashing-out mode last night. Did they not know it was coming? Jesus H., she can't attract young voters. She's a deeply flawed candidate. Do they plan to ... what, precisely? Wish that away?

How could anyone feel comfortable getting emotionally invested in....well....any of these candidates? I'm not political junkie, but I think this is the least "Presidential" group of candidates in my lifetime.

A quick search shows it was Paul Tsongas in 1992 (second in Iowa, won New Hampshire). Gary Hart (second in Iowa, won NH) also did it. Not sure if it was a different voting format or not, though.

This Politico story about Rubio's chances in South Carolina is laying it on pretty thick, as indicated by the bolded words.

GOP establishment stares into the abyss

"Those close to Rubio, who has surrounded himself with a number of brass-knuckle, South Carolina-bred operatives, say he’s eager to push onward. Terry Sullivan, Rubio’s campaign manager and a veteran of many a Palmetto State knife-fight, is scheduled to hold a call with top campaign donors on Wednesday."
