    MC-
I think it would be a good study to examine ground/points gained commensurate to gazillions spent. Jeb would be at the top.

I think that accounting for inflation, John Connally is still the lowest ROI. He had one delegate when he dropped out.

Phil Gramm had the most money in '96 and didn't make it past Valentine's Day. Finished sixth in Iowa and lost Louisiana to Pat Buchanan.

From Slate: "Gramm's presidential campaign was meticulously planned. He raised a fortune. He carefully positioned himself as the only alternative to Robert Dole. And he utterly flopped. Gramm ended up spending more than $20 million to win eight delegates, and accomplished the impossible: He made Steve Forbes handsome, Pat Buchanan compassionate, and Bob Dole jolly. "He was really uniquely unsuited to be a presidential candidate," says Rutgers political science professor Ross Baker. "He is diabolically smart, but he makes no concessions to small talk and does not do well communicating with people he feels are his intellectual inferiors."

Yeah. And he's the one presidential candidate who's ever been assassinated.

Other than that, you make a good point.

Fair enough, although George Wallace probably wished he was dead more than once.

Lay money on Hillary as a wedge against higher income taxes later.
