I've never walked out of a movie. the closest I came as 'Van Helsingborg,' which is still one of the dumbest and worst movies ever made.
I went to see 'Road to Wellville' with friends, and we talked about walking out on that.

I haven't seen 'Hail Caesar,' but I've liked almost every Coen Bros. movie with the exception of 'The Ladykillers.'

'Inside Llewyn Davis' is really good.

I saw "Hail, Caesar" a little over week ago, and although their were some good parts, and the acting was generally pretty good, it just felt underwhelming to me. I think the person who said it was just a bunch of separate scenes loosely stitched together to form some kind of plot was right on.

I never had any thought of walking out though.

Today, thanks to the presence of a second-run theater in the area, I finally got to see "Creed," and really enjoyed it. It was a lot like watching Star Wars Episode VII in that you saw a lot of tropes and plot points that mirrored the original movie that spawned all the sequels. And the climactic fight had my blood pumping, like all the previous Rocky movies.

Watched "The Big Short" last night and really enjoyed it. Good acting all around (Bale, in particular), and they did a nice job of making the rather dull subject of mortgage backed securities and CDOs entertaining and accessible to the average viewer. And, of course, Margot Robbie in a bubble bath.

Hopefully going to watch "Room" or "Spotlight" tonight. I'm hoping to see those two and "Bridge of Spies" before Sunday so that I will have seen six of the eight Best Picture nominees. Won't get to a theater to see "The Revenant" before then and I have no interest in "Brooklyn."

You'll like Room and Spotlight. Both are very well done.

Bridge of Spies is good, too. Some really nice acting.

The Intern. It was OK. Good for a smile or two.

Finally watched "The Martian," which I should've seen in first run but did not. Excellent adaptation of the source material by Drew Goddard. I liked it a lot.

    The Witch.

    It was creepy.

Repeating myself here, but I found The Big Short to be the best "movie movie" of the year and I hope it wins the albino Oscar...but The Martian is firmly placed in my Top 10 of 21st Century Movies. It's really fantastic on so many levels.

Mad Max Fury Road. Mediocre at best with mediocre acting and no character I was invested in or rooting for. One long car chase does not a movie make.

    Dennis Weaver is sad now.

Watched "Spotlight" last night and it's easily the best film I've seen this year. Wow, what a great job. Ruffalo was phenomenal. I know Sly is the odds-on favorite, but damn, I have a hard time believing he was better in "Creed," which I have yet to see, than Ruffalo was in "Spotlight."

I don't normally get emotional when watching a movie, but I actually cried watching this one. It was really quite powerful and I guess I just connected with it on many levels. I grew up Catholic, I was an altar boy, and I later worked in journalism. I suppose that as I watched, I felt fortunate I wasn't among the thousands of children who were molested by priests in the U.S. (and my home city showed up on the list at the end of the film).

It was also interesting to realize that when I toured the Globe offices as a college senior, they were somewhere in the building working on this story at that very moment. That kind of hit home for me.

Tonight, we'll be watching either Bridge of Spies or Room. Hoping to see them both before Sunday.

Saw four of the eight, which is a very high percentage for me. Of them all, I liked The Big Short the best. Spotlight was excellent, although it's very weird watching a movie star portray someone you know. Bridge of Spies was worthy but kind of dull. Mad Max: Fury Road was a great mindless summer movie, a genre which deserves an Oscar sometime, seeing as it's what pays the bills for the whole business.
