Red herring. The party is so fucked-up, it should disband anyway.

The GOP has created its own mess.

I don't know that I've heard any. I just figure that their version of Joe Sixpack reading the paper has to wonder.

What a Donald Trump presidency might actually look like

Even the most forceful modern presidents, however, quickly discover the limits of what they can do.

"It's not that he can come in, start with a clean sheet of paper," said Andrew Card, who worked for the last three Republican presidents, including 5 1/2 years as George W. Bush's chief of staff. Congress, the courts and the bureaucracy of federal agencies guard their own prerogatives.

"Governors tend to understand that better than CEOs," who have far more authority over their companies than a president has over the government, Card said.

"When you're the president, you're not a dictator."

Since both sides will have their nominees decided soon, what will happen at the conventions? Just the "official" announcements? Any chance they scrap one or both? Or do they have to go off no matter what?

Probably should pay more attention to politics than Vegas lines.

Probably the same thing that happens at 99 percent of conventions. They vote to make it official, a lot of people make a lot of speeches, the nominee and his VP make a stump speech, and we go on to the actual campaign.
Almost every nomination is sewn up months before the actual convention, yet they still have them. Even when there's an incumbent president running unopposed.

Besides, even if making the presidential nomination is a formality, there's still a lot of nuts-and-bolts party business that gets done at these things.

The party that controls the Senate, the House, and the majority of governorships should "disband."

    OK, buddy.

Parties should be able to win presidential elections.
The Unicorn King had four million fewer votes in '12 and still kicked their rear end.
