I didn't like "Mad Max." Did not get the praise at all.

Recently saw "The Fault in Our Starts" on a flight. Not a bad film for its audience, but sorely predictable. Two unbelievable scenes: tourists at Anne Frank's house bursting into applause at two teens making out and when Nasty Author flies to Girl's City to attend a funeral to hand her a copy of an email. Um, couldn't you have just forwarded it?

Spotlight. Awesome movie. Prolly the best of the 5 nominated movies I've seen. All five -- Mad Max, Big Short, Revenant, Martian, Spotlight -- were great.

Also saw Spotlight. Incredibly well done. Tucci was great. Toss up between that and The Big Short for me. Hoping to catch Leo's flick sometime tomorrow before the awards as most people I talk think it'll win. I think this is now the most nominated movies I've seen.

Feeling great about the string of movies I've seen recently and added two more excellent ones yesterday. "Room" last night and "The Good Dinosaur" in the afternoon.

Holy hell, "Room" was powerful. Brilliant acting on the part of Larsen and Jacob Tremblay, the boy. I'm baffled that he didn't receive a nomination. He was miles better than Matt Damon was in "The Martian." I really think Leo might be lucky this kid was snubbed. If he was nominated, he might have won (if that makes any sense). Larsen is deserving of every bit of praise she's received, and I hope she wins the Oscar. It's yet another example of an actress "going ugly" and getting nominated, but it really was an outstanding and deserving performance.

"The Good Dinosaur" was very good as well. The story wasn't anything special, but the animation was downright incredible. I guess Pixar did a lot of innovating in how it creates landscapes and the efforts were very noticeable. The landscapes were truly spectacular visuals. It was funny in parts and Arlo's journey was interesting. My 3-year-old was pretty riveted throughout. I'm very surprised this wasn't nominated for best animated feature. I thought it was far better than the mediocre "Inside Out."

This is true, and obviously ironic, since "Brie Larson" and "ugly" wouldn't spend five seconds in the same company. Larson's a stunner, and a decent actor in the right roles. A long career ahead.

Saw couple this weekend in the theater --

Triple 9 -- A mash-up of about 12 crime movies, notably The Departed. Kate Winslet plays a mob boss semi-plausibly. Best perf probably goes to Anthony Mackie. Two good action scenes, including one that has some Point Break essence to it. I doubt Atlanta is as brutal as protrayed here.

Deadpool - The guy's an asshole, but he might be your kind of asshole, if that makes sense. I laughed 5 times. Probably not enough. Very meta and way too proud of it.

Room. Phenomenal. A total emotional kick in the gut. I've now seen seven of the eight best picture nominees. Won't have a chance to see Brooklyn before the Oscars. If I had to rank them, there's not much difference between Room, The Big Short and Spotlight. Those are my top three. I'd still bet on The Revenant, but I could see Room sneaking away with it.

I haven't seen Brooklyn but have
We saw the same seven and had the same reaction. Pretty shocked that Spotlight won.

Rented and watched "The Intern" this morning. Nice easy watch, but the ending was sort of... "What?"

Did laugh hysterically when Rene Russo, as the company's on-site masseuse, gives DeNiro a chair massage and he gets wood. Fellow intern "buds" notice, help him cover and Russo walks away unaware. Then, DeNiro gives dual fist-bumps to the boys for helping him out. Pretty funny.

The Intern made me smile. Didn't really make me laugh, but I smiled throughout.

Easily the best 30 for 30 I've seen. Easily. I didn't even like that fucking team.
The interviews and footage were fantastic. Very well done.
Great appreciation for the players - the characters - that team. The story of Covert/Mongo fight had me rolling.
Mike Singletary looks fatanstic for his age.

The ending - Ryan's letter - wow..... Wow.
    Singletary crying got me.

    Awesome.

Just finished the six part series on Netflix called The Heavy Water War. Very well done, with great scenery and realism. Hell of a story based on actual events. The Norwegians spent over 8 million euros to make the show, and it is of high quality. Recommended.
