You really think the $20 aspirin price is going away with everyone insured? A 9-mile Uber ride costs $35. A 9-mile ambulance ride costs $1,100. Why? Because some people didn't pay their bills? Charge a fucking reasonable price --- say, $150 --- and everyone will pay.

People by and large CAN PAY THE BILLS . . . when the bills are not grossly inflated.

A trip to the ER and an overnight stay in the hospital easily costs $10,000 or more. I bet the hospital do not collect from 90 percent of those uninsured.

High prices for actual hospital services, prescriptions and such are not because of Obamacare. In fact, government insurance sets prices that docs don't like.

    .
I'm not blaming Obamacare for any of that.

BUT . . . a trip to the ER and an overnight stay in the hospital should cost no more than a few hundred bucks. Most uninsured people would pay that. But that choice doesn't exist. Not in this country.

$20 aspirin exists because when you're hospitalized you aren't in a position to compare prices. Health care breaks the supply/demand model, which is why it can't be a free-market system. I'm not wildly in favor of the way the ACA is set up, but you can't have a free market for health care.

Yeah that aspirin that's $20 to you if you have no insurance will be less than a buck if you have Blue Cross. They leverage everything down hardcore. Chest x-ray that costs you $75 plus another $50 for the radiologist to read it will cost them maybe $35.

Why should it be a no more than a few hundred bucks to stay in a hospital overnight? Think that hospital is free to build and staff? Would you move to a different hospital to save a few bucks when you're ill or hurt? It shouldn't be cheaper than a decent hotel in a big city.

I know you don't post often, so maybe following conversations is a little new to you. Nowhere in the conversation was anyone talking about the election results of 2008 or 2012. The discussion was about the failures of the administration.

But someone who has no sympathy for someone who dropped out of school and had three kids out of wedlock by age 20 is a cold-hearted bastard.
