I was a late-goer today to a showing of "Spotlight" at a local discount theater.

It was well, well worth the $3.75 I paid to get in, and I can even see how it could have nabbed the best-picture Oscar trophy.

I loved it, and can hardly get over seeing a movie that had conflict, intensity and interest, all without a bit of blatant violence. And it rang true and, for the first time in a long time, made me genuinely miss my journalism career. Just a really good movie.

Watched August: Osage County for the 3rd time Tuesday night.
This movie cements my belief that Meryl Streep is the greatest actor of all time...not that I've seen everything she's done but she nails her characters consistently better than anyone. Her range is only matched by Dustin Hoffman (Ratso, by DH, is the best film character ever) and I'd rate them equals.

I keep meaning to watch Spotlight, but I've been so busy since taking over as desk chief. My paper is doing a promotional (free) viewing of the film for the public at our local theater and setting up info and subscription booths at the lobby. Worked out some kind of deal with the theater. Might try to make time to check it out.

I saw Creed last night. Jeez it was total snore fest. It was completely predictable and shitty. It was 3% as good as the original Rocky and that's only because of Tessa Thompson, I liked her.

Anyone who thought Michael B. Jordan should have been nominated for an Oscar shouldn't be allowed to express them selves in public ever again.

That's nice. Reminds me of when I was in Nashville and Seig set up a lunch screening of "Absence of Malice." Still sticks with me, 35 (!) years later.

Got around to seeing Spectre last night. Enjoyed it, but not as much as I enjoyed Skyfall.

Enjoyed the ending. Had to explain it to the gf and future m-i-l.

    "London has Fallen." Very entertaining.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Liked it a lot, though it kind of bugs me that they made it about TV reporters when the journalist it was based on was a newspaper reporter. I haven't read Taliban Shuffle, but I probably will now. Other than that, I really like the movie.

Wow. Harsh. It was one of the best movies of 2015. Simply fabulous. Jordan was good, but not Oscar-worthy. Stallone, on the other hand, delivered a terrific performance. If you were bored, that's your fault.

I guess we can just be glad that Spotlight wasn't altered to change the Globe reporters to hard-hitting, hard-loving local TV news anchors and web aggregators.

I wondered if the WTF script was altered because it was coming out the same year as Spotlight, a la Runaway Jury/The Insider. Couldn't find any stories that said as much, though.
