I don't think that's the case at all. She said - and has always said - that she could not have an abortion herself. And she has been pretty convinced by research about when the heartbeat begins and other fetal development research. If nothing else, she certainly would consider moving the date after which one can get an abortion earlier in the pregnancy. She's moved right. She's wavered.

Like most liberals, she's never really been challenged on the issue.

Dems haven't had a single abortion question during any of their debates.

Liberals want to be on the right side of an issue.

If the prevailing wisdom shifted, as it did on gay marriage, a lot of folks like your wife would be comfortably pro-life.

They don't want to be judgmental and they don't want to be in the minority.

You should see her watch Republican debates. She just yells at the TV the whole time. I asked her if that would ever change, and she said no. I've tried to get her to temper it a little bit when our son is watching, because I want him to respect the process for a while before cynicism sets in. (And I'd like to see what impressions he comes up with himself.)

So she's like cranberry with curves?

Did we establish whether "curves" was a euphemism for "overweight" or not?

Though fully pro-life myself, I actually tend to trust the instincts of most pro-choice folks.

I'd rather they weren't pro choice, but their heart's often in a better place than those who are pro-life for the wrong reasons.

Suddenly tony's performance on the "Making a Murderer" thread makes sense.

He thought Avery and Dassey were guilty not because the trial found them to be, but because there was a trial in the first place.
