Trump cheats at golf - the ONE and ONLY politics thread

Coco, it was inevitable that some Democrat would run as more aggressively liberal than Obama. Sanders calls himself a socialist in tribute to his own youth. There's nothing in his platform that would've frightened FDR, Truman or LBJ. The left remains a big part of the Democratic coalition, just as it was before Bernie turned out to be that guy. It was also inevitable said candidate would lose to Clinton, who served in the Obama administration which remains REALLY popular with a majority of Democrats.

 

So, no debate.

Bad move by Kasich. He's still trying to introduce himself to the American public. (Though, maybe that doesn't matter since he can only win at an open convention.)

Total win for Trump. Loss for FOX, which surely thrills Trump.

 

All good points, MG. And I want to be clear about something else: one of the great things about America is that (so far at least), the wide spectrum of political opinions and splintering of the two main political parties is happening at the voting booth, without violence.

Let's hope it stays that way.

But Hillary now opposes it, which might be (OK probably is) disingenuous as hell on her part but would represent a victory for the Sanders camp in influencing the debate.

 

Did we choose between the lesser of two evils in 2008? In 2012? Seemed like both sides ran really good candidates in each of those elections.

 

I sure would like to know why Democrats rioting last Friday is a Republican problem.

This is what I hope is the end result of Trump's candidacy. You don't want a guy like him hijacking your party? OK, then get your shit together.

Same thing with Sanders' support on the other side.

This election cycle gives me little hope for the immediate future, but hopefully both parties will not ignore the obvious signs of discontent and that will lead to a net positive for the country in the long run.

 

I still think it's incredible, that in the face of a potential, party-splitting Trump nomination, the rest of the party was unwilling to get behind the guy with the best chance of beating him, Ted Cruz.

Instead, they dicked around with Jeb!, Little Marco, and even Kasich.

Cruz is a little kooky, but be's a true conservative. That they would drive off the cliff, and pledge to not vote for the Republican nominee vs. Hillary, instead of agreeing to get behind Cruz just shows how inflexible they are.

It's not just that they don't want Trump. They only want one of their own.

Cruz still has only one endorsement from a fellow Republican Senator.

Yes, I get that Cruz is personally unlikeable. But, you'd think they could put that aside for the greater good. They couldn't.

Fuck them.

 

McCain and Romney were mediocre candidates. Not bad, but not the type to "unite the party."

 

Is Rubio ever going to shed "Little Marco"?

 

It's a Trump problem. Trouble seems to follow him. That's the perception. It's like when an athlete gets shot at or knifed or exonerated of rape. Even if they didn't technically do anything punishable, almost inevitably, no one is surprised. No one in Chicago was surprised Patrick Kane was at the center of a police investigation last summer instead of Jonathan Toews. No one.
