    Career oWAR of 14.7.

    Yeah, not a star.

No. Not even that. Not for a first baseman. He's a guy with a little pop in his bat who had a couple of nice years. One of them happened to be in Washington, though, which makes him Ted Williams on SJ.com.

Anybody who makes it for 10 years in the Major Leagues, primarily as a starter, is a star. People seem to have no idea how difficult that accomplishment is.

Compiler at the end of the line of his career. Has a kid he wants to bring around 100% of the time which, amid a baseball locker room, is puzzling. Co-anchor and I both have children. I just said "would you resent a co-worker who is paid well above what he or she produces, often calls in sick (injuries) AND gets to have his kid around all the time?"

    "Oh. Screw that guy."

I'm surprised, cranberry. You seem to have a sharp distaste for anyone who makes decent money but you're sticking up for Mr. .207/$13 Mil? Bernie Sanders weeps.

Same rule applies for porn actresses.

In that industry, there aren't many equivalents of hitting .207 at age 35. By that age, you've got to do all of the truly deviant stuff to keep getting a paycheck.

    Unless you're a star.

What on earth makes you think I have a distaste for people who earn money?

Yes, Nats fans (including myself and at least one other on this board) are generally big LaRoche fans. No, he's not Ted Williams. Just a good dude who played very well while he was here. Seems pretty reasonable, I'd think. Is he a "star?" Who knows. Is Flacco elite?

Well, great, then you guys can have both he and Adam Dunn and the horse they rode in on.

And indeed there are few debates as vacuous as ones over whether a guy fits an amorphous term. And I just got sucked into one.

Let's be honest, copy editors make a lot of people "stars" because it takes less headline space than journeyman, TV personality or character actor.

Is LaRoche an elite baseball player?
