Adam LaRoche being a star on any other level except with his family, or immediate neighborhood, is one of the craziest things I've read in all my years of sj.com.

12 years in the majors, and not one all star team? With all of the expanded rosters as a result of injury, begging off, etc?

Adam LaRoche is a jobber. Not a star.

    And fuck the Drake.

    Poor man's Paul Konerko.

Fifteen pages on Adam LaRoche. This place never ceases to amaze.

He's a star, what did you expect?

    Very poor.

LaRoche, in addition to a very pedestrian 12 seasons (no all star selections, never led the league in anything), also was a pedestrian .748 OPS in four division series appearances.

Konerko was a six time all star and helped win a frigging World Series for the Sox. And an ALCS MVP. And had his number retired by the Sox.

Baseball Reference says his closest comp is John Mayberry, and that comparison is pretty much dead nuts on the money.

Dead nuts is a completely underused phrase. As is "right on the screws."

I need to hit the golf course soon.

You mean John Mayberry? The star?

I remember him being on a Slurpee cup when I was a kid. Is that the bar?

Mayberry led the league in walks twice, OBP once, OPS plus once, and sac flies once.

Plus Mayberry had one hell of a bender in 1977 before ALCS Game 4, leading to a hungover Big John making Willie Aikens look like a Gold Glove at first base.

LaRoche set his priority, and could afford to just quit over it, or anything else, for that matter. It's really that simple.
