Konerko didn't bomb as a top prospect for two teams. Two GMs traded the wrong first baseman when faced with a choice. Konerko didn't have a full season's worth of PAs when Cincinnati traded him.

Speaking of Paul Konerko, a friend said this today and he's right: This shit doesn't go down like this with Konerko around.

    LaRoche addresses the situation.

TwitLonger — When you talk too much for Twitter

"With all of this in mind, we move toward the current situation which arose after White Sox VP Ken Williams recently advised me to significantly scale back the time that my son spent in the clubhouse. Later, I was told not to bring him to the ballpark at all. Obviously, I expressed my displeasure toward this decision to alter the agreement we had reached before I signed with the White Sox. Upon doing so, I had to make a decision. Do I choose my teammates and my career? Or do I choose my family? The decision was easy, but in no way was it a reflection of how I feel about my teammates, manager, general manager or the club’s owner Jerry Reinsdorf. "

Has any reporter even gotten a player to say off the record that they didn't want the kid around?

Report it if you have it. The speculation, rumors and innuendo from reporters is bullshit.

A question for all you fathers out there (congrats YF, by the way): would you want your kid with you at work as much as LaRoche's seemed to be? Would it not distract you even a little bit, even if the kid was well-behaved?

My only dependent is my Xbox, so I can't relate to it at all. Although, I'd totally be down to have my Xbox with me at work all the time, so maybe I can relate.

My question, though. How many jobs compare to what LaRoche did for a living? He was playing a game, even if it was his job. And doing it in front of spectators, for their entertainment. Isn't it more natural (and cool) for a kid to be around an MLB baseball clubhouse than it would be for a kid to be hanging out while his dad files inventory reports?

A father's bond (or lack thereof) with his son is colored by the relationship the father had with his father. That's a complicated enough dynamic without the uniqueness of being a professional ballplayer. Only LaRoche knows why he and his son spend so much time together.

I think it's a good thing-- LaRoche retires, and he should. Maybe now Drake goes to school.

LaRoche's WaPo quote that Moddy mentioned-- "We're not big on school."-- doesn't fly with me.

Maybe YOU weren't, Adam, because of the ADHD, but your child deserves the opportunity to learn to read, basic math, develop critical thinking skills, and forge friendships within his age group. Fetching sunflower seeds for major league ball players all day doesn't give him that chance.

Kenny Williams conducted a Bad PR Master Class with his handling of this, but at least the deed is done.

This is starting to frustrate me.

Kenny Williams is not the Child Protective Services, nor is he trying to be. Nor does he care to be. He thinks the kid is a distraction. Full stop. It's not some intervention because he worries that Adam LaRoche isn't raising his kid right. The only people who seem to want to moralize about that are a bunch of sports writers.
