Why should they, though? It would be one thing for Nats fans or Pirates fans to respect him, but he's just been bad as a Sox player. Maybe they respect his reputation as a great guy, but with more and more fans getting tired of the "good clubhouse guy" angle and just looking at analytics, it's not like he gave you all some great memories last year to earn him some extra rope.

Respect has nothing to do with it. You can be a whiny bitch baseball fan (is that an oxymoron?) and talk about such things, but it's not like LaRoche kept the Sox from winning a division title.

I care less about this guy's ramblings than I do about this non-story. Go eat a polish sausage and STFU.

I just looked at that Go Fund Me page. I shouldn't be laughing at that stuff.

Been wrestling with this recently. I am still in journalism and my hours and days are shit (Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.). I get an hour or so with the 4 month old early in the morning before he goes to daycare and an hour or so at night, if I really hustle home and avoid traffic.

It is making me seriously think about changing my career. I'm missing tons of stuff on the weekends and it sucks.

I have Friday-Saturday off, which is nice, but I'd kill for a 10-7 shift.

I'd never trust a man who can't laugh at the occasional sick joke.

    I trust you.

That's the fan's problem. It's not like LaRoche took his case to the media. He walked away. His teammates got rightfully angered, not so much about the issue itself, but by the way it was handled (which was atrociously) and they cleared the air. It should come as no surprise to anyone that players will stick up for their teammates.

I mentioned early on in this thread that it would have been ridiculously easy to avoid this situation. It should ideally have been handled in the offseason, as a clearly articulated change in policy that affected all players. The message should have been delivered by Ventura or maybe Hahn but certainly not Williams and certainly not in the middle of spring training.

If a fan can't (or chooses not to) figure that out because he's only concerned with a guy's stats falling off at the tail end of his career, fuck him.

Pretty funny stuff on the Go Fund Me page. I assume that $500 from Rick Hahn and $1,000 from Brett Lawrie is the person who started the page donating to himself? Otherwise pretty steep for a joke.

For years Albom brought his kid to the press box without complaint. Turned out it was Lupica.

Chone Figgins had a decade-plus major league career. Helped the Angels in a small way to win a World Series in 2002. Signed a big money contract with Seattle and underperformed. Was an all-star once. Signed with the Angels for a day to retire an Angel.

On the cranberry scale: Is Chone Figgins a star?
