It's crazy looking at the county by county numbers from Utah and Idaho. I don't know if Hillary had more than 40 percent of the vote in more than four counties between the two states.

As a Mass. resident, I believe this is a phenomenon of being the other party in a one-party state. Rank and file Republicans here are VERY conservative, because otherwise they'd register unenrolled to have a say in Democratic primaries (many people who'd be Republicans elsewhere do just that). Elected Republicans are moderates because that's what's required to win elections. So in Utah and Idaho, I'd expect rank and file Democrats to be very liberal indeed.

 

You're free to list all the current Republicans supporting Nixon. Then see if you can find one single lefty who's not still backing Obama.
