Food/restaurant rant

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by hondo, Mar 23, 2016.

  1. No. 1 Cracker Barrel fan. LOVE the spicy grilled catfish.
    The Breakfast menu is solid.

Kids like IHOP. I think its overpriced. We spent $50 there on pancakes. Bob Evans is nice, but I don't like the menu. Dennys? I can not get over the racist stigma attached to Dennys years ago. Pass.
A Waffle House or Omelet Shoppe? I haven't been a drunk college kid scrounging for a 2 a.m. meal in about 20 years. ... Pass.

I now want to try Taco Bueno.

Jewish delis are a big favorite. Had a pastrami-corned beef combo with cold slaw on rye toast just yesterday. No need for a mid-afternoon snack.

For breakfast, good bagel with cream cheese and lox fits the bill. I like the nova.

I'll eat latkes with apple sauce any time of day.

We agree about very little but I could chow down with you, Mr. S.

How Jewish? No dairy? Beef bacon?

I like a good Jewish deli/diner, but if they're Kosher, it kind of throws things off for me.

It makes me sad to know that there are people in this world that don't know the joy of Bueno.

Actually, that's pretty close to the definition of American society. German society, well, that's another matter entirely.

  6. I don't think we have one within 600 miles of us.
My best hope is Columbus. Eventually.

Food is the universal language, and that sandwich sounds awesome.

I was joking/cross-threading with regard to integration. Having said that, ketchup on a brat is worse than ketchup on a hot dog.

My other Jewish deli favorite is whitefish salad on a bagel.

First, this is the most entertaining thread I've read in a while.

My restaurant preferences (drafting off Jr./Shotglass' template):

Golden Corral: No thanks. I'll go to Longhorn in my town.)

Cracker Barrel: Love the chicken and dumplings. The first 4-5 times I ate there I enjoyed perusing the country brick-a-brack store but I just walk right through it now when I go.

Olive Garden: I much prefer Buca di Beppo, but it's pretty scarce in my state, and IMO Carraba's > OG.

Pizza Hut: Never eaten there when the pizza didn't smell like ammonia. If I want quick serve pizza I go to Little Caesar's or Papa Johns.

IHOP: If I'm hankering for breakfast food I go to Waffle House.

PF Changs: More Mrs. Novelist's thing than mine, but I do like the lettuce wraps.

This bit about "have you ever been here before?" Yeah, that annoys me too. Maybe I dress more like a McDonald's customer or something, but they can ditch that question.

It's cool. Clearly I missed the cross-thread reference.

We could start another whole thread on condiments. With the occasional exception of barbecue, I'll skip them altogether. Like my hamburger to taste like beef, chicken to taste like chicken, etc. Even with barbecue, I enjoy the taste of the pork and the sauce only tends to cover it up.
