If you only have limited time with your son, I think it's important to focus on the airing of grievances and feats of strength.

My boys are only 22 weeks old now, but we have already established those as an annual tradition.
Well, I guess we have to go through it at least twice before I can call it a tradition.
And honestly, the airing of grievances is pretty much a daily occurrence.
But I make recordings, so they can listen when they get older.

The Secret in Their Eyes. Very Sixth Sense-ish. Jeez they made Julia Roberts look ugly. Wasn't the worst movie I've seen. Wasn't the best either.

Everest. It is strong visually. But ... since it was based on a true story, they needed to get the details right. There are a bunch of diverging stories on what happened, so it's hard to be sure whether they did. I know Krakauer hated it. Of course, it made him look like a total puss.

Was the film based on Into Thin Air, or other accounts of the expedition? Into Thin Air is one of my all-time favorite books. I knew the movie was about the same expedition, but I didn't think it had anything to do with the book. They didn't use Krakauer as a consultant?

There were other books about that sequence of events by other climbers. I'd swear I read somewhere the movie was based on one of those, but I'm at a loss to remember which one.

Make I recommend reading "Goodnight Moon" instead?

My kids are beyond my being able to compete with them in feats of strength. Though you've probably got a few months left.

    Then it's feats of wallet.

    Batman vs. Superman.

Umm. Well, it had some cool-looking scenes. Wonder Woman was probably the highlight of the movie, but it might be nice if she got her hair mussed up or something in battle.

Just overly convoluted, dark and serious.

The Revenant. Beautifully shot but soulless. For a film taking place in the Dakotas of the 1820s, weirdly, we've seen this all before.

Recorded this a while ago and finally watched it today: Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

I'd say great performances, but I'm not so sure it was even a good movie, much less a great one worthy of the Oscar. Is Broadway really that kind of a hot mess?

One of the things I liked about these movies is that I was young and didn't catch most of the sexual innuendo, i.e., before I became warped.

The performances were great, as you noted, and the film itself was ambitious. It was well made, unique and I'm sure many members of the Academy could relate to it on one level or another. All that said, the ending was horrendous and really kept it from being great, IMO.

Of the few nominees I saw last year, I thought "The Imitation Game" was most deserving. I enjoyed "American Sniper" better as well, though it fell short of greatness.

    Even longer flight.
I've now seen Star Wars five times in or over four different countries.
Peanuts movie, which I've also seen on four flights, is a terrific throwback. Woodstock cracks me up.
