That particular gag is getting really old. I was hoping he'd give us some original material as he defends it.

Plus, it's not like doing all that media comes without risks. What does he do, at least a half dozen interviews a week? That's a lot of opportunity to say something stupid (as in fatally stupid) and to have it used against you.

I think the difference is, if Trump runs and loses then it's just another election loss.
If they screw over Trump it turns the entire electoral process into a sham. They will not only lose this election, they will go against everything they supposedly stand for. It'll create a viable third party by 2020.
They made a deal with the devil. Now they're trying to back out. They might just be better off living with the terms of the deal.

If the GOP decides to run someone else other than Trump, then they're telling their voters not to bother to vote in the primaries or caucuses, because they're going to pick someone else if they don't like the results.
