I can't think of any other homicide that is justified, other than self-defense.

Defense of another, soldiers acting upon lawful orders, police officers acting in fulfillment of their duties ...

 

I would put "defense of others" and police officers into the self-defense category.

Anyway, I'm tired, and still have some actual work to finish tonight, so I'm checking out. People will find this hard to believe, but I improve my thinking about issues by hearing how others here think through issues that seem like tough nuts to crack for me.

 

I wouldn't classify them as self-defense, because one is not defending him or herself in those cases. But hey, dude, I enjoy the banter. Off to bed for me, hoping the kids don't wake me too early.

I can think of few situations in which that would be any more defensible.

 

When they start playing five sets they can demand the same money.

 

Way off the point, but I'm for a change in men's tennis.

If you win the first two sets, ballgame. No need to play a third.

If the first two sets split 1-1, best of five.

I like tennis enough to damn near love it, and if I had ever had to see a women's Australian five-setter, I may have had to block out about 7 hours, and someone may just die of heat stroke.
